Last night Explosions In The Sky along with special guest Lichens performed at The Fine Arts Center at Calvin College here in Grand Rapids.

I easily coerced Michelle to get out of her work commitments and come with me — it was her first EITS show. Experiencing Explosions In The Sky live is always such a mind-blowing experience and I especially like to see how people react after seeing them for the first time. Lichens was an equally unique and mind-blowing half hour experience as he looped wordless vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, and percussion. If you are a fan of Eluvium, I’d suggest checking out Lichens.
New Threads:

The show was not nearly as good as the last show I saw them in March 2007 at St. Andrews in Detroit, but not because of anything that the band did or did not do. The band played a great set and poured every ounce of energy into the music as usual. However the sound system and speakers at Calvin were old and sub-par. The demon speakers struggled, crackled and produced lots of static at the very low bass notes. Also, the crowd would clap, cheer and applaud after every crescendo or loud span of music as if that was the end of the song, not knowing the correct beginning or conclusion to the actual songs. This is a major pet-peeve of mine, and rightfully so, because it shows a lack of understanding of both the composition and the beauty of the song in its entirety.
Set List:
First Breath After Coma
Catastrophe and the Cure
Memorial
Remember Me as a Time of Day
The Birth and Death of the Day
Your Hand in Mine
Greet Death
The Only Moment We Were Alone
